Mr + Mrs Lalami

Well this one is a little different than the usual wedding, and in a way that hit close to home for me.

Othmane is from Morocco and came to the states to play tennis at Auburn University in Alabama. While he was in school, he met Cayla, who grew up here in the great state of Ohio, but happened to also be attending the school. Well, one thing led to another and the two of them have been inseparable since.

Othmane decided he wanted to be here in the states with Cayla and so together they have faced the U.S. immigration process together - just like my husband and I did back in the day - and when anyone goes through that process, it's so trying on the relationship. And these two passed through it all with grace and came out on the other end stronger for it. (congrats again for passing your interview!!)

They actually got married around Christmas time last year. So what I captured was the reception 6 months later in her hometown of Cincinnati. And it ended up being a beautiful celebration between both families, a lot of whom traveled from all over the United States, Europe, Morocco, and even the Middle East to be there. Getting to watch all of these people from all over the world be apart of Cayla and Othmane's celebration was truly special for me! And I'm so happy I got to capture it all.

So, press play and let the photos do the rest of the talking <3

52 Weeks Project | Week 4 | A Moment in Time

This week's photo is all about finding the calm in the chaos. And what better way to capture that than to embrace the concept in the middle of America's midwestern city of Chicago during a work trip!

I was up there for an anniversary session with one of my past bride and grooms, who got married nearly 3 years ago, and they were wanting some updated portraits of the two of them. And I was sooo happy to see them again! Photos from their session will be up asap (so stoked to share these guys).

But instead of traveling alone up to the city for a day or two, my hubby and baby joined me along for the ride! And it made the work trip into a mini vacay. They helped me with this week's photo (mainly making sure my camera didn't get stolen haha) and we took the time to explore and test the limits of a toddler in a big city (which were suprisingly pretty amazing!)

This week's behind the scenes video has little snippets from our travels around and a more in depth look into how this photo was made. Check it out below:

I really embraced a simple concept this week since we were on the move constantly. But I get moments while being on a constant go where I need to sit still, relax, and give my brain a minute to catch up with everything that is happening around me. Or I'll leave the situation not able to really remember what was going on at all.

So I wanted to photograph that concept where I do that very thing while the rest of the world moves on by. Like time freezes for me and the rest of the world feels like it's moving in a fast forward motion. And so, I wanted to capture some images of various people and cars in a blur while I stood completely still.

Since I don't have many behind the scenes photos from this week (all the ones I did have are featured in the video above) here are a few photos from our travels in Chicago over the last few days.
