Alexis | Editorial Bridal Shoot in Mason, Ohio

I am SO excited to be sharing these today taken with the lovely Alexis last month. I have to admit it turned out beyond any of my expectations (which is hard to do!!). I really hope to do more of these in the future.

Thank you to everybody who contributed to this photoshoot giving your time and creativity. And especially to Alexis and Becca for coming all the way up from Louisville for this little sunset shoot across a beautiful field.

52 Weeks Project | Week 1 | A Call for Adventure

“Life has no meaning. Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life. It is a waste to be asking the question when you are the answer.”
― Joseph Campbell

This week kicks off the start to my new 52 weeks project! If you are unfamiliar with what that is, it's where you take one photo every week for a whole year centered around some sort of theme. And my theme is going to be self portraiture.

This week’s photo is actually inspired by a man named Joseph Campbell. He said that mythology and almost all story telling in general follows a basic formula he calls “The Hero’s Journey”. Which involves a hero who goes on an adventure, and in a decisive crisis wins a victory, and then comes home changed or transformed.

And although I’m not jumping on my white horse, sword in hand, ready to go out into the night and fight the evils of the world, I do hope to use this little project of mine to embrace some inner reflection and go on my own personal ‘hero’s journey’. After going through the darkest period of my life, I need to redefine myself and figure out all that I am, was, and want to be. So, my hope, at the very least, will be to create some space for myself each week to make some new art and reflect on different pieces of me to do this very thing.

Also, kind of random, but I hope to create a behind the scenes video each week during this project. And so, here is this weeks and my process for making this photo.

Amy + Mitch | Engaged in Lebanon, OH

I always walk away from a photoshoot with something. And this photoshoot gave me some much needed inspiration!

Amy and Mitch invited me to come along to their family's property where they are currently living out in the countryside near Morrow, Ohio. The house on the property is an old 1800's school house that has been fixed up and renovated in different ways over the year giving it and the entire property so much character. And if you know me - I'm all about vintage (heart eyez for dayz guyz). Not to mention, the weather turned out BEAUTIFULLY making this my first sunny session of the year! (Double Score!)

And all of this matches these two so well! They were all smiles together during our session and it didn't take long for them to be completely themselves in front of the lens. I always admire couples who are comfortable being EXACTLY who they are with each other!! And Amy and Mitch seem to bring the best out of each other. So, you can say, this photographer had a great time photographing them!

I'm really lookin' forward to photographing these two tieing the knot in September :)
