A Rainy Wedding at Terrapin Village // Carly + Matt // Cincinnati Wedding Photographer Brooke Townsend

Well, this is a special one.

Carly and Matt have been together for years. And when it came time to finally say “I do” to each other, they wanted nothing more than the most intimate and special place they could think of - her parent’s backyard.

Carly’s parents own a beautiful B&B called Terrapin Village out in Oregonia, Ohio. With an old mill house, covered bridge, and super picturesque lake showing off the surrounding landscape. And this dreamy place made for the perfect wedding venue for these two. And I’m so happy too that these guys wanted me to not only capture their wedding, but asked me to come along and capture their rehearsal as well to and celebrate all their friends and family coming from all different parts of the country that memorial day weekend.

Everything was absolutely perfect from the colors, the invites, the florals, and simple decorations. It was amazing. And seeing it all come together for them was the absolute best.

But what made this wedding really special is the fact that yes… everything was flawless and beautiful… but these guys faced almost the absolute worst scenario you can imagine with the biggest amounts of joy I have ever SEEN.

Carly dreamed of getting married under the family oak tree. One that has stood for longer than anyone really knows. One that her sister also got married under. And with only 30% chance of thunderstorms and rain on the radar, it felt like - to all of us - it was worth the risk of chancing.

And honestly, everything started great! We were pretty much on time. Everything was running smoothly. And there was a slight sprinkle that everyone was sheltered from under that historic oak tree.

But, things quickly turned for the worst and a THUNDERSTORM rolled in about 10 minutes into the ceremony! And things elevated SO QUICK lol! I remember running to grab my umbrellas that I brought - just in case - and do to every wedding (because always be prepared!) and sent my second shooter down to the reception tent with all of the spare gear. I had one camera, my leather bag, and just stood in the rain under this umbrella capturing as much as I possibly could. And you know what… it was pure MAGIC.

It could have easily turned into a situation where they stopped the ceremony. Or gotten so upset and beside themselves that the thunder and lightning was louder than they were!! But you know what? None of that happened. They embraced it FULL FORCE and loved every second of the absolute chaos!! And because them and their entire group of friends and family embraced it, this “disaster” was just another part of their story enhancing the entire event.

I don’t think I’ve ever taken as many REAL candids before full of the biggest laughs and smiles. And so, because of all of that magic, this wedding is easily going down as one of my favorites of my entire career.

Enjoy <3

Also, just wanted to take a second to share the teaser video for their wedding! Panda Films did such an amazing job and it was so wonderful getting to work with them!
