“Life has no meaning. Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life. It is a waste to be asking the question when you are the answer.”
― Joseph Campbell
This week kicks off the start to my new 52 weeks project! If you are unfamiliar with what that is, it's where you take one photo every week for a whole year centered around some sort of theme. And my theme is going to be self portraiture.
This week’s photo is actually inspired by a man named Joseph Campbell. He said that mythology and almost all story telling in general follows a basic formula he calls “The Hero’s Journey”. Which involves a hero who goes on an adventure, and in a decisive crisis wins a victory, and then comes home changed or transformed.
And although I’m not jumping on my white horse, sword in hand, ready to go out into the night and fight the evils of the world, I do hope to use this little project of mine to embrace some inner reflection and go on my own personal ‘hero’s journey’. After going through the darkest period of my life, I need to redefine myself and figure out all that I am, was, and want to be. So, my hope, at the very least, will be to create some space for myself each week to make some new art and reflect on different pieces of me to do this very thing.
Also, kind of random, but I hope to create a behind the scenes video each week during this project. And so, here is this weeks and my process for making this photo.
