A Winter Soul

I always hear everybody talk about how much they hate winter. But me? I'm actually in love with it!

I guess becoming a photographer made me appreciate it more than I used to be able to. Winter is a slower time of year for photographers (and actually kind of for everybody once you enter a new year past the holidays!). It gives us the chance to take a step back, breathe, recenter ourselves, and mentally prepare ourselves for the next wedding season. With the added elements of cold it naturally embraces the laziness of nights in, cuddles by a fireside, snow, and a quiet stillness in the air that no other season can bring. And in general, the isolation can bring a very fulfilling solitude for me and it's easily appreciated after the hustle and bustle of the warmer months.

For example, a few days ago I woke up just before sunrise to the cooing of my little babe waking up for a new day. I went to get his breakfast ready and when I looked out our kitchen window, I saw a thick layer of fog across the entire area and I was instantly inspired! I woke my husband up and told him I had to go photograph it!! And so him being the amazing, supportive hubby that he is.. he gathered himself out of bed, watched the baby, and let me have a mini adventure out through this foggy morning. Needless to say, it was incredible and absolutely satisfying.
